Subject: The European Commission underlined that in 2009, the EURODAC Central Unit (that concerns the fingerprints of asylum seekers) continued to provide very satisfactory. The amount of 'category 1 transactions' concerning the asylum seekers introduced in EURODAC has increased. The number of 'category 2 transactions' regarding the number of persons who were apprehended in connection with an irregular crossing of an external border dropped by 50%, while the number of 'category 3 transactions' regarding persons apprehended when illegally residing on the territory of a Member State increased by 12,7%. However, according to the Commission, concerns remain about persisting excessive delays in the transmission of data to the EURODAC Central Unit.
