Case Law [2007] UKHL 16 (25/04/2007)
Type: Judgment
Authority: National Courts House of Lords
Date: 04/25/2007
Subject: The case deals with collective sex discrimination at work.
The decision not only asserts the principle of non discrimination and the illegality of such behaviour (in this case, women were given a lower salary than men), but also reconstructs the principle of effectiveness of protection of the rights recognized by national and European norms; in this sense the principle of true interpretation is reasserted, where it is said that national norms must be interpreted so as to be compatible with the principles and rights protected by community law.
