Subject: The commentary examines, firstly, the European Union's accession to the European Convention on Human Rights and, secondly, the legal status of the Charter of Nice and its impact on the Italian Court of Cassation.
In the past few months, two important events have accelerated the development of relations between the EU and the European Convention of Human Rights: the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and the ratification of Protocol 14 to the ECHR by Russia. At the same time, domestic courts have begun to recognize the legal force of the Nice Charter.
