Title: Privation of freedom in the decisions of the ECHR

Date: 02/29/2008

Subject: The comment examines the recent case law of the Court of Strasbourg on privation of freedom. Every privation of freedom puts the person in a very vulnerable situation and exposes him/her to the risk of torture and inhuman and degrading treatments. Through the exam of some real cases, the Author examines the direct and negative impact of privation of freedom on several other rights guaranteed by the Convention (from the right to the respect for private and family life, to the right to vote, from the right to freedom of assembly and association, of expression, to the freedom of movement, from the right to life, to the right to liberty and security and the right to a fair trial).
