Subject: The decision of the Trial Chamber VIII of the International Criminal Court sentenced the accused person to nine years’ imprisonment as author of war crimes, according to article 8(2)(e)(iv) of the Statute of the Court (“intentionally directing attacks against historic monuments, and buildings dedicated to religion, education, art, science or to humanitarian goals, hospitals and places where ill and wounded persons are gathered, as long those buildings are not used for military purposes”), committed in Timbuktu (Mali) between 30 June and 11 July 2012
