Other Acts P6_TA-PROV (2010)0435 (25/11/2010)

Type: Acts of the European Union: European Parliament resolution on the annual report on the European Ombudsman's activities in 2009

Authority: European Authorities - European Union: European Parliament

Date: 11/25/2010

Subject: The European Parliament, approving the annual report on the European Ombudsman's activities in 2009, pointed out that the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty increased the democratic legitimacy of the Ombudsman thanks to his election by Parliament and extended his remit to include the common foreign and security policy and the activities of the European Council. Moreover the Parliament underlined that the Charter of Fundamental Rights, which is now legally binding, defines the right to good administration as one of the fundamental rights vested in citizens of the Union; it called therefore on the Ombudsman, in his everyday consideration of complaints, to enforce the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

Classification: Citizens’ rights - Art. 41 Right to good administration by the bodies of the union - Art. 43 Ombudsman of the union
