Subject: The Court affirmed that European Union law, and, in particular, the principle of effectiveness, does not preclude national legislation making the right of an employee to seek a reassessment of the periods of service which must be taken into account in order to fix the reference date for the purposes of advancement subject to a 30-year limitation period. However, the Court affirmed that there was no need to answer the other questions referred for a preliminary ruling, concerning respectively the principle of equal treatment, the principle of the prohibition of discrimination on grounds of age and the prohibition of discrimination in connection with freedom of movement for workers.
