Subject: Freedom of expression. No violation of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights concerning either: the convictions of the writer and publisher of a novel based on murders by Front National militants; or the conviction for defamation of the publication director of the national daily newspaper Libération, which had published a petition signed by 97 contemporary writers in support of the novelist. The Court further held, unanimously, that there had been no violation of Article 6 § 1 of the Convention concerning the fairness of the proceedings against the newspaper.
