Other Acts P6_TA-PROV (2017)0073 (14/03/2017)

Type: Acts of the European Union: European Parliament Resolution on equality between women and men in the European Union in 2014-2015

Authority: European Authorities - European Union: European Parliament

Date: 03/14/2017

Subject: The European Parliament is deeply concerned that the EU remains only halfway towards achieving gender equality, according to the 2015 EIGE Gender Equality Index; strongly regrets the fact that the status and profile of gender equality and the combating of gender discrimination shows signs of decreasing in importance; it points out that the EU is obliged to combat social exclusion and discrimination under the TEU and that the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) enshrines the EU’s commitment to eliminating inequality and promoting equality between men and women; stresses that the principle of gender equality does not preclude the maintenance or adoption of measures which provide concrete benefits for the under-represented gender, as laid down in Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights; it calls on the Commission to mainstream gender equality into budgets and policy-making, and into the implementation of EU measures and programmes, and to carry out gender impact assessments when setting up any new policy to help ensure a more coherent and evidence-based EU policy response to gender equality challenges; calls on the Member States to undertake corresponding measures at the national level

Classification: Equality - Art. 23 Equality between men and women
