Subject: The European Parliament takes the view that a horizontal approach to consumer policy is necessary and that it is vital to take the consumer's interest into account in all relevant policy areas in order to ensure that all EU consumers enjoy a high level of protection. An increased emphasis should be given to the special needs of vulnerable groups, such as children, elderly people and people with certain disabilities. Finally, the European Parliament calls on the Commission to explore the merits of establishing a special European Consumer Ombudsman for cross-border cases.
