Subject: The European Parliament affirmed that the European Union is still far from conducting a coherent and hard-hitting policy to uphold and promote human rights around the world. According to the Parliament, in order to bring about a significant improvement in the promotion of human rights, it is necessary to strengthen the EU's common foreign and security policy and to ensure that the promotion of human rights as an objective of the CFSP is strictly implemented. In particular, the Parliament called once again on the Council and the Commission to mainstream human rights policy into all external European Union policies and to identify the countries of particular concern. Finally it called for improved cooperation and coordination between the Council of Europe and the European Union.
