Subject: The Supreme Court decides in favour of the compatibility of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1990, which provides the compulsoriness of life imprisonment for homicide, with the constitutional principle of proportionality of the punishment and with the principle of the judge’s discretionary power, as well as with the rights provided by article 5 of the ECHR, also applying the jurisprudence of the Court of Strasbourg.
