Subject: The Interamerican Commission of human rights has presented a report against Colombia concerning the killing of 12 people and the injuries suffered by other 3 (all of whom were judiciary officials dealing with difficult criminal enquiries) carried out by a paramilitary group: these facts have been committed with the collaboration and the compliance of state officials. The Court has stated that Colombia has violated the right to life, provided by article 4 of the American Convention of human rights, the right to personal integrity, provided by articles 5.1 and 5.2 of the said Convention, and finally the right to personal freedom, to jurisdictional guarantees and protection, respectively provided by articles 7, 8.1 and 25 of the Convention. The State must also carry out the necessary enquiries to ascertain the facts and to condemn those who are guilty; it must guarantee to all judiciary officials an appropriate protection, so that they can work properly; moreover, it must pay compensation for the material and immaterial damages, as calculated by the decision.
