Subject: The first sentence issued on 26.07.2010 by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, created under the aegis of the UN in order to judge upon crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge regime; the Trial Chamber has sentenced the former officer Kaing Guek Eav to 35 years’ imprisonment for crimes against humanity and serious violations of the Conventions of Geneva of 1949: the Court has ascertained that at least 12.272 persons were arrested and killed or died after having been tortured in the security centre S-21, at the head of which there was the accused person
